Just a minute here to let you all know I'm healing well and feeling better. The sun is shining for the first time in weeks it seems and I am headed off to enjoy a dinner put on by the Cape Cod Salties tonight......my beloved is the fish chef and he is right now up to his neck in preparing baked cod and veggies.
Hope everyone is fine out there. Sending a lot of love and positive thoughts out to the people of the states affected by the terrible tornadoes, especially Joplin, MO. The devastation is beyond words, yet the strength of the human spirit is shining brightly as people come together to help each other cope in the aftermath.

Balti Part I and Injury Update
Thank you everyone for your kindness and concern about my fall and resulting injuries...I'm pretty sore, and still cannot see out of my left eye....due to swelling. The cuts are all pulling as the healing progresses. Everything hurts, but I am just taking it one minute at a time. Not sure if I will go to work tomorrow or not....the bruises, etc are pretty shocking to look at. We shall see.
Anyway, here, at last are the first of the photos of my Baltimore trips several weeks ago.
For many years I've been visiting my brother and his family in Baltimore the first weekend in May. We always do some fun touring in delightfully quirky Balti, but I enjoy a warm and beautiful break from the endless winter on Cape Cod. LM and I tearfully parted at the airport, and soon I was floating on a cloud on my way to summer.
Within a few minutes the clouds gave way and the scenery was lovely. I had a very clear vie of NYC as we flew south along the west side of the Hudson River, with a very clear view of the city and Central Park.
My SIL, Jenni, greeted me at the airport, and we drove immediately to a great Mexican restaurant to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with some delicious food. After a walk, we were finally at their house and I had a great walk around their garden to take pictures in the glowing late afternoon sun.

I settled in and we caught up on news, and it was early to bed as Friday would be a big day with a lovely tour to LaDew Gardens and lunch at Cafe Hon in Hampden were on tap. I love being with my brother and family so much!!

Freaky Friday
Just after work last night, I stopped at my house to pick up groceries to take to LM's for the weekend. As I made my way out to the car with the first bag, I slipped on the front walk (c0vered with pink petals from two nearby ornamental cherry trees) and went face down HARD onto a cement parking stop in front of my car. I was out cold and when I came to shortly, blood was gushing everywhere...thankfully, my cell phone was in my pocket and I instinctively called LM. All I could say was send the ambulance I've fallen. He called 911 for me and the good Chatham guys were there quickly. I had managed to get back in the house by the time they arrived and now the place looks like a murder scene.
The hospital took care of me immediately and a number of stitches were needed to close up the hairline injury....pretty deep and it hurt. I was already being treated when LM got to the ER. He was shocked to see my face.
Today I am resting at LM's, my eye is swollen shut and my face is getting more purple by the minute. I also injured my knee and the shoulder I've been nursing for months (just found out it is a rotator cuff tear).
These photos don't convey half the carnage, but this is graphic enough........

There's a message from the universe in all this. I'll be meditating on it!

Finally Friday and Blogger is Back
While LM and a host of his fishing students will be doing this (the master practices what he preaches, and, well - it's a striped bass)
and this....(last evening on the student's first fishing field trip),
I am going to be resting with my badly infected toe up, iced and comforted as best it can be.
Yesterday found me rushing off to my primary care physician, followed by an emergency visit to a podiatrist. Sure hope they are right and that the high powered anti-biotic I am taking will begin to bring down the screaming pain and swelling in my right little toe and surrounding foot area. No idea on cause.
Meanwhile, also from the "getting old is a challenge" department, I will be having an MRI on my left shoulder next Tuesday to further investigate the injury sustained when I fell out of LM's bed last Feb. Still very painful. Good story, though.
In other news, Vanessa did come home from the rehabilitation center yesterday and is settling in to being at home. There will be a lot of in-home therapy and some out-patient treatment, as well. Recovering from a major brain trauma is a long ordeal. Her Facebook messages sound cheerful and hopeful. Visiting is being kept to a bare minimum as she is very tired and busy. John did see her yesterday.
Also, beginning tonight, LM is doing his annual Women in the Outdoors weekend....yes, he and a number of his fishing club friends will be teaching 20+ women to fish for 2.5 days. There will also be some classroom time. The weather forecast is cold, dark, and grim but they fish anyway! I will be in the comfort of my house cozying up to Netflix and my pillow to give my toe time to heal. I did hear a rumor that Sunday afternoon would be dedicated to a weekend re-cap and some alone time for me with LM. We shall see!
I am working on posts about my trip but having Blogger down for several days put a cramp in my style.....Happy weekend everyone.

PS.....Ms G is doing very well. She has John there for company, and a big box from Amazon.com was delivered the other day so she's been busy ripping all the tape off.....I ordered a baking stone and pizza peel. Breadmaking to commence when I am better.

Whirlwinds and Whirl-a-Gigs
Spotted this cutie on a recent walk with LM....somehow it struck me as a metaphor for my life....somedays, anyway, and I do love me anything cat. Don't tell Ms G.
Thanks everyone for your concern lately. Coping with a very slow internet connection and a myriad of other things has given me no time to write.
My shoulder/arm injury has continued to give me a lot of sleep disturbing pain, and now a foot issue is impeding my mobility and also bringing it's own nasty level of pain to the party. Seeing my physician this week should shed some light on both issues, and hopefully, some relief which does not involve heavy-duty painkillers.
My whirlwind trip to Baltimore last weekend was perfectly wonderful, delicious, warm and filled with beautiful sights. The Sheep and Wool Festival was amazing and I came back with a few new "treasures." I promise a longer post with pictures soon. My brother and wife were just wonderful, and in a short time, we packed in some great memory making events.
From the wonderful and miraculous news department, John got to visit Vanessa at the rehabilitation hospital last Thursday and I am certain is was a profoundly touching time for both of these great young people. Vanessa has truly made a miraculous recovery and will be coming home this Thursday. She will need months of out-patient therapy, but she is alive, fully cognitive and walking on her own. We cannot wait to see her. There is a very large benefit event planned on May 21 to help Vanessa and family with expenses. We will be there with huge smiles and very grateful hearts. I am most certain that the beautiful positive energy sent forth through this little page, had a profound impact on Vanessa's recovery. THANK YOU!! I will do photos and a post on the benefit concert.
Hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day! Mine was mostly spent in flight, but I knew the love of my wonderful children, LM's children and my mother were all with me, and as I walked from the plane, I was warmly embraced by my darling LM. What more could I want?? Oh, and in case anyone was worried about Ms G, she is so busy birdwatching - goldfinches are her current fave), and holding down the comforter on LM's bed, and playing John and LM, that she hardly noticed I was gone. LM does assure me, though, that she missed me very much, and was purring very loudly when told I would be home soon!!

Friday
Up very early today to watch the royal wedding...really beautiful!
Wanted to let everyone know that Vanessa came through the surgery very well. She will remain in the ICU through the weekend and move to a recovery center on Monday. Her family says she's not able to talk right now but has been writing notes which make fairly good sense, and that the real Vanessa is in these notes! We are so very hopeful, yet know there is a very long road ahead.
Today LM is on a very long car swap trip for a local dealer. He's driving to southern Maryland and back in the same day. I'll be relieved when he is back tomorrow morning. It does seem like a very stressful trip. He'll be calling me every hour or so.
meanwhile, I am trying to catch my breath and have some relaxing time this weekend.

Happy Birthday, Lisa
Smiling pansies seem the perfect way to wish our friend, Lisa, a very happy birthday today. Lisa, is the light of Kristi's day, three days a week, at the Community Connections program. She has made a huge difference in Kristi's life and we are enormously grateful.Have a day deserving of wonderful you, Lisa, and enjoy the cupcakes. Kristi requested them just for you!!
