I happened to be awake very early this morning and thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the very early morning golden light. Walking around in the fleeting glow, it would pop up here and there and doing such funny things as lighting up the bathroom door knob, making it look like some ancient treasure.
Somehow this short-lived fun led me to a childhood memory of similar light experiences. Until I was 15, we lived in a small house adjacent to our farm in Hanover, MA. Between our house and the farm was a fenced-in field-range area for the chickens, complete with little houses where they spent their nights. Beyond the field was the lovely farmhouse occupied by my paternal grandparents. At the front of the field, along the street was a beautiful old stone wall, and lining the street were 6 of the most beautiful trees, I have ever seen. They were ancient and huge ash trees! I loved to walk on the stone wall under these ashes, gazing at their rugged bark, and up into their glorious foliage canopies, and on occasion I created little spaces in the rocks, just for myself to sit, play and hide little treasures. I can remember cashing in bottles at the store, buying a Hershey bar with almonds and hiding it in the wall then sneaking back later to find it for a bite. The fact that the wall and the ashes were between our house and Nana's made it even more special, as I loved spending time with my Nana so very much. I must go back to see if those ash trees are still there, and with my move in a few months, I will be closer and just may do that.
This post inspired by Jon Katz's post this morning about the beauty of ash wood, and the golden hour light of May 7, 2014.

Yes--you must go back to see! I love these kinds of memories. We were so lucky to have our Grandma's nearby!!
My grandmother would travel miles on the train to the big city to take me back to her home.
Such memories,
the swing on the porch,
night sounds,
going to church with her Sunday morning, night and Wednesday night.
I still miss her so much
loved her to brush my hair :)
What a lovely walk down memory lane, thanks for taking me :)
